Power Foods Supply Lasting Energy

A high-energy presentation exudes confidence and creates a spark that can solidify a sale or earn a new customer. Your performance, however, can be affected when a hectic work schedule disrupts good eating habits, leaving you sluggish before a pivotal event. Here's how to prepare your body for a power presentation:

About 30 minutes prior to your meeting, avoid foods high in sugar, such as candy bars and sugar-sweetened sodas. These foods cause sugar spikes, which create short-term energy bursts typically followed by much longer periods of performance-crippling fatigue. Instead, energize yourself by eating one of the following power snacks, created to help you sail through those occasions when you need to be your sharpest.

Oatmeal with brown sugar and nuts. Prepare a packet of plain instant oatmeal; add brown sugar and chopped nuts. As a substitute, oatmeal bars are effective alternatives. Look for bars with the following configuration: 300 calories, 48g carbs, 7g protein, 10g fat.

Peanut butter on raisin bread with one banana. One piece of raisin bread topped with one tablespoon of peanut butter and banana slices provides a low-fat, high-energy snack.

Turkey breast, low-fat cheese and whole grain bread. Three slices of low-fat turkey breast with one slice of low-fat swiss cheese on whole grain bread will boost you through your presentation. Add two slices of tomato for an extra punch of energy and flavor.
