Talk It Up with Word of Mouth Marketing

Word of mouth marketing (WOM) -- a strategy in which you engage customers and get them talking about your service or products -- can effectively and quickly grow your business. Here are some tactics for implementing a successful WOM strategy.

Provide excellent customer service. Nothing spreads your good name faster than delivering excellent services to your customers.

Diversify your network. Become visible and active in your community. Make a goal to meet five new people per week, and give them good things to say about you and your business, such as your dedication to customer service and your large array of mortgage products.

Give people something to talk about. Word of mouth marketing centers on the message you want to spread. It has to be something memorable, appealing and interesting enough to start a tidal wave of conversation. Is there a new mortgage product on the market? Are you going to be part of a spectacular community event? Also, use brochures or flyers to fortify your WOM strategy.

Use technology to move your message. Email, blogs and community bulletin boards exist to spread messages. An exciting, beneficial message can spread quickly among potential customers. Remember, once you open the door to talking about your business, you have to make time to address your audience's questions.
